OUR CURRENT EXHIBIT
"TIN AVIARY: Art from the Dumps"
June 6, 2010 through July 19, 2010
Please join us for an opening reception for Zabby Cox on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from noon until 4:00 p.m.
Williamston, Michigan artist, Elizabeth Cox, present an exhibit of birds constructed from recycled tin. The riotous flock of birds by Zabby Cox is a wonder to behold. A year or so ago when she began constructing birds from recycled parts they were small, delightful hanging birds that brightened up a corner of the garden. As time's flown by, the flock has increased in number, size, and complexity. Cruising by the garage studio, one must crane to see what's new, because there are always delightful surprises.
The birds are now identifiable species, large and small, in
families,in choruses, flying, standing, nesting: behaving as birds do. How astonishing that expression and movement has been evoked from an oil or Altoid tin!”
Elizabeth explains: "These birds are made from tins collected from dumps,Woody's Oasis, friends, family, neighbors, strangers. Tin flows into my garage and flies out transformed. 'Hope is the thing with feathers' says Emily Dickenson. I hope you like them."
This TIN AVIARY was created with the passion, intensity, humor and discipline with which Zabby seems to use to tackle all her life projects. She has three specific dump visiting/collecting days, for example. Zabby does not have a lengthy resume regarding her art as this is her first formal exhibit. Her resume reads: "Before I hit the dumps I was a psychiatrist." So we are very pleased to present this collection in Mackerels Sky's new space. It is a happy exhibit and a good metaphor for our new location.
